New Girl on the Blog: Let's Talk Men's Ethnicwear
13 Aug 2025Hi everyone! I'm Vanshika, and I just joined the Orly team as a content writer. This is my first blog post here, and I'm honestly a bit nervous but really excited to share some thoughts about men's ethnicwear that have been on my mind.
I'm 23, fresh out of fashion college, and I've been watching the complicated relationship guys have with traditional clothing - especially in our generation. And honestly? I think we're missing out on something good here.
Why I'm Even Here
So picture this: I'm at my cousin's wedding last month (typical Bengali affair, you know how it is), and I'm watching all these guys struggle with their outfits. Half looked like they borrowed from their dad's wardrobe, and the other half were trying so hard to look "modern" that it just felt... off.
And that's when it hit me - we're a generation that can make anything cool again, but somehow men's ethnicwear feels stuck between two worlds: either very traditional pieces that feel outdated, or fusion wear that's trying way too hard.
I think we can do so much better.
What I've Been Noticing
Growing up in Kolkata, I'm surrounded by incredible textiles and craftsmanship, but most guys my age only reach for ethnicwear when there's a wedding invitation involved. They'll spend ages getting their casual fits right but somehow feel lost when it comes to traditional wear.
This feels like such a waste! There's so much room to make ethnicwear work for how we actually live our lives.
What I'm Planning to Do Here
Through these blogs, I want to:
Make it practical - Show you how to wear traditional pieces without feeling overdressed for your actual life (yes, you can wear a kurta to brunch).
Give honest takes - I'll tell you what works and what doesn't, including stuff from our own collection.
Keep it real about budgets - Good style doesn't have to break the bank. Let's talk smart shopping.
Start actual conversations - Fashion is personal, and I want to hear what you think too.
My Promise to You
I'll be straight with you about what works and what doesn't. If something looks great, I'll say so. If something's not working, you'll hear that too. And when I'm figuring things out myself (which happens more than I'd like to admit), I'll be honest about that as well.
I want this to feel like chatting with a friend who happens to know a bit about fashion. Comment, ask questions, tell me I'm wrong - I'm here for all of it.
What's Coming Up
Next week, I'm calling out something that's been bugging me - why do so many guys think wearing a kurta automatically makes them look "too formal"? Like, who decided that? We need to fix this mindset because it's honestly limiting so many good outfit possibilities.
After that, let's talk about the eternal struggle of finding the right kurta length. Because apparently, this is harder than it should be.
This should be fun.
Thanks for reading my first post here at Orly. I'm excited to be part of this team and to start these conversations with you.
